Passion: Yoga

Growing up, yoga was a special part part my life. My mother had fallen in love with yoga long before it was trendy to do so. She was so healed by her yoga practice, that she soon became a teacher and had shared her passion with many grateful students, of which I was one.

As an adult with a busy schedule of business owner and many other responsibilities, I can’t say I get to indulge in yoga as much as I would like. But when I do, it is very special to me. When I recently had the opportunity to create portraits of local yoga teachers and help them promote themselves through new digital images, it was really gratifying and inspiring.

First, I met with each of them individually and discussed their unique style, preferences and prepared them for what would be their first experience in a portrait studio. Then we carved out a day to have all the women come to one big photo session. I had our videographer film the day and our organic stylist., Alyssa create unique looks for each yogi. The ladies were so enthusiastic and supportive, guiding each other through pose ideas. Their positive attitudes, peaceful demeanors and amazing skills were a joy to photograph!

Passion: Sign Language

“Before” Picture of Monet

If you’ve seen someone communicating through sign language, you probably know it can be so beautiful! I met Monet at church where I was moved by how she expressed herself during the music performances. Monet has been deaf her whole life, but you’d hardly know it. She is a busy young woman, going to nursing school, traveling, and living life fully. One of her passions is music and to watch her express that through the beauty of sign language is captivating!

I had not seen any good portraits of anyone signing, so I invited Monet for a session, with my stylists and videographers, to help capture the beauty of this style of communication. We also had a mutual friend and translator on hand so that I could communicate efficiently with Monet, since I don’t know sign language myself.

As with many portraits sessions, Monet started off shyly. But once we got her in to wardrobe and pampered by our stylists she eased into modeling for the camera splendidly! I had researched signs that were of interest to feature and went through each of them, along with the wardrobe and set changes. In the end, Monet opened up, moving and flowing to the music in her head. Her true self shined and everyone was spell bound. What a wonderful experience for all of us! Passion: Cello

At the tail end of my forties, I had finally felt settled into my groove here in Denver Colorado. Recently remarried and with business growing, I felt ready to pursue a passion that I passed up many years ago. I had always wanted to learn the cello, from when I was a teen. During a recent trip to France to visit family, we talked about that missed opportunity and the prospect of learning an instrument later in life.

When I returned from France, I was inspired and on a mission! I found a great teacher, a beautiful cello and went to learning with total dedication. My lifelong dream started coming true and I enjoyed meeting other students with the same musical passions.

That is how I met lovely Alex, a soon to be sixteen year old who had been playing the cello for years. She was just marvelous to watch and listen to. Her mom and I discussed a portrait session at the studio and along with my team of stylists and videographers, we got to capture a magnificent portrait sitting. Listening to Alex play her cello, while being photographed was an added bonus!

Passion: Tango Dance

When my friend and dance teacher Lindsey Dechant was looking for new images for her business, I was excited to provide those for her at my portrait studio. Fortunately, our DelaFoto studio is spacious and perfect for capturing the alluring movement of tango dance. Lindsey came in with her dance partner Matt and stylist Alyssa Housch . We worked for several hours as the music played on the stereo, and the time flew by. Together, we explored classic dance outfits, steps and expressions as they breezed across the floor and I followed with studio lights and camera gear. A fun session and great results. the portrait below is featured in our studio gallery today.
